The Story of Baby Jesus

by Sharla Guenther
A long time ago, in the town of Nazareth, lived a young woman named Mary.  Mary did her chores, was kind to others, and loved God very much.  She was engaged to be married to Joseph, who was a carpenter.
One day, while Mary was at home cleaning her room, an angel suddenly appeared.  Before Mary could say anything the angel told Mary that she was favored by God, and that God was with her.
Mary was surprised.  She was trying not to be afraid, but she had never seen an angel before.  After all, Mary was just a regular lady like you or I.  Why was this angel visiting her?  What did the angel want?
The angel quickly tried to reassure Mary. "Do not be afraid!" the angel said.  "God has found favor with you.  You will have a baby boy, and are to give him the name Jesus."
Mary was confused; she was not yet married to Joseph, so how could she have a baby?  The angel thought that this might concern Mary so he said, "The Holy Spirit will perform a miracle, and because of this your baby will be called the Son of God."
To Mary's surprise, the angel had more exciting news: "Even your cousin Elizabeth is going to have a son in her old age.  Many thought that she couldn't have children, but she is already pregnant. Nothing is impossible with God."
Mary couldn't believe what she was hearing; she didn't know what to say.  She realized that she was trembling, and knelt down.  When she was finally able to speak she said, "I am the Lord's servant, and I hope everything you have said will come true."
Then the angel disappeared, and Mary was left alone.
Soon after, Joseph found out that Mary was going to have a baby.  Joseph was confused and upset by this, but an angel came to him in a dream and said, "Joseph do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife.  The child Mary is going to have is God's son, and you are to give him the name Jesus."
When Joseph woke up he remembered what the angel had said.  He knew that everything was okay, and he wasn't upset anymore.
In those days, the government decided that they should count everyone that lived in that area of the world.  So Joseph had to take Mary to his town of Bethlehem to register.
It took Mary and Joseph a long time to get to Bethlehem.  They didn't have cars back then, so it probably took them a lot longer to get there.  This was very tiring for Mary because she was soon going to have a baby.
When they reached the town, all the hotels were full and there was nowhere that they could stay.  Finally, someone felt bad for them and offered them a place to stay.
The Bible story about the birth of baby JesusThe Bible doesn't say for sure where they stayed but most people think that they stayed in a small barn where animals were kept.  In any case, doesn't it seem strange that Jesus, the King of the Jews wasn't born in a fancy palace or even a hospital?
Mary and Joseph were thankful that they at least had a place to lie down.  It was warm, and there was plenty of straw to lay on.
That night an exciting, wonderful thing happened: Mary and Joseph had a baby!  But this wasn't just any baby, he was Baby Jesus!  The creator of the whole world, the King of Kings, and the one who would save the world.
The little baby boy fell asleep in Mary's arms. She wrapped him in cloths and laid him in a manger on some clean straw.
Mary and Joseph soon fell asleep; they were so glad to have this special baby join their family.

Letter to Anyah on her 3rd Birthday

My little Ani-Bee,

You are three today. Of course if we ask you, you will tell us you are five...but you're three and it's been an amazing three years.

You are such a blessing. You are stubborn and you love to be independent and do things alone. You are loving, my cuddler who gives the biggest hugs and the most puckered up kisses. You are sassy, and awesome in ways I can't describe. Also, you are funny... The good kind of funny that fills the world with light and love. You are amazing.

Today you started swim lessons and you were so excited you ran around like a crazy person, jumping up and down and singing to yourself all day. Then you refused to go any farther in than the first step. That's what I love about you... You love the adventure and the journey of something so much that doing the actual thing sometimes isn't nearly as important.

That, and I love the way you dance. Sister you have got some epic moves...

And I love the bizarre way you pose...

And how you love to eat and cook with me...

And how you are crazy about trains, the zoo, the ocean and did I mention trains...

I love that you and your sister are crazy, vibrant, and full of love...

And I just plain love you... Just the way you are... Even when you do this...

Or this...

Because mama can always see the best parts of you which at all times and your best part is in both those pictures... It's the feelings... You're all about big feelings. You swell my heart.

Happy birthday baby.

Love,
Mommy

To Layla on her 5th Birthday

My dearest little diva,

This Friday you turned five and I watched my little early bird baby get ready for her party in true take charge fashion. I am proud of you. You are loyal, outgoing, thoughtful, and full of questions. You make friends with everyone and want everyone to be able to play together. You'll be a leader some day, I can tell.

You are also strong willed, stubborn and the loudest person I have ever met. Ever. No really, ever! Music, drums, singing, laughing, talking... You even sleep loud.

You love Disneyland, playing outside, dirt, running, driving up and down hills, swings, being the momma, helping to cook, the Giants, chocolate, chicken, cosleeping, Rapunzel, having long hair, and bossing people about.

You dislike new vegetables, people who boss you about without saying please, bad smells, the idea of a haircut or weird hairstyles, scary movies, heights, and when your little sister gets to pick first.

You are a graceful sort of beautiful. You balance, tumble, and twirl, your long hair dances in the wind with dancing big eyes and a bright smile.

Your so smart. Your already a math wiz, adding and subtracting since you were four. Now your working on writing and you love to be read to. You like to use big words and you love science facts. You remember everything. Your also witty and funny. You ask too many questions and you drive us crazy but you also know so much I can see that all those questions are adding up.

I look at your little personality, natural beauty and quick wit and I know I've met my match.

So, because this day is all about you I asked you a few questions about your favorite things to end this post..

Color- purple
Food- ranch dip
TV Show- word girl
Movie- tangled
Game- checkers
Person- rapunzel
Toy- baby alive
Animal- puppy

What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to pick my very own chores, be the mommy boss, and be an animal doctor at the zoo.

You're an excellent big sister, a wonderful daughter, and an amazing friend.

Happy birthday, bug!

Love,

Mommy

Hot August Nights...and days

So August, otherwise known as the start of our busy season went a little something like this...

Cousins came from out of state and we picked them up at the airport and went to the train museum with Papa Mark and ShuShu...

Then we had a playdate BBQ at the place they were staying in Hilmar and a few days later the boys spent the day playing at our house...

Cousins are fun... Layla was bummed when they left.

But she danced her way out of it...

Then we had several trips to Nannie's where I do homework while mom watches the girls and then I make dinner and we all eat together...

And one time we had fake thanksgiving and Teri and Papa Glen came...

We had a lot of play adventures around Turlock...

We got a new baby girl cousin...

We went to Mia's birthday...

We had a birthday dinner for Daddy...

We went to a birthday party for Cousin Kylie...

Nannie got a new dog...

Teri made the girls twirly clothes...

And we closed out the month with a family visit at PopPops...

And if you think that's busy, you should see all the stuff I left out ... Haha

And September is no joke either.
